Kevin Courtemanche, Arrigo (cover)

Kevin Courtemanche (Arrigo cover) is grateful to Maestro Keith Chambers for his first opportunity to cover a role with New Amsterdam Opera. Among his career highlights Mr. Courtemanche has portrayed John Twist Sr. in the North American premiere of Charles Wuorinen’s acclaimed Brokeback Mountain with the New York City Opera and the Brigadier General in the world premiere of Philip Glass’ Appomattox at San Francisco Opera. He has essayed many roles in African American themed operas during his long association with Trilogy: An Opera Company, in Newark, New Jersey, including real life personages J. Edgar Hoover in Marcus Garvey, John Hammond in Sassy, J.W. Milam in Emmett Till and HUAC Chairman Francis E. Walter in Robeson, and roles in Nat Turner, Frederick Douglass and The Martinsville 7.

In the United States and Europe, Kevin has sung such great operatic tenor roles as Otello, Radamès, the Duke of Mantua, Macduff, Alfredo in La traviata, Don Carlo, Ernani, Calaf, Rodolfo in La bohème, Cavaradossi, Dick Johnson, Canio, Turiddu, Andrea Chénier, Maurizio in Adriana Lecouvreur, Don José, Faust, Hoffmann, the title role in Wagner’s Siegfried, Bacchus, Aegisthus, Alfred in Die Fledermaus and Tamino.  Mr. Courtemanche has performed or covered as principal or chorister with such illustrious companies as the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, New York City Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, National Chorale, Boston Lyric Opera, Sarasota Opera and St. Petersburg Opera, and with such other noted organizations as the Metropolitan Opera Guild, Hudson Opera Theatre, New Rochelle Opera, Hubbard Hall Opera, Vertical Player Repertory, Long Island Opera, North Shore Music Festival, dell’Arte Opera Ensemble, Lowell House Opera, Bel Cantanti Opera, Baltimore Concert Opera, River Bend Opera and Tundi Productions, among others.

During the recent moratorium on live performance, Kevin was pleased to contribute his singing and acting of King Kaspar to Operanauts’ fundraising film of Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. Now that live performance has returned, Kevin is looking forward to reestablishing his affiliation with Tundi Productions, where he was engaged on short notice to sing the Young Sailor in Tristan und Isolde at the 2019 Wagner Opera Festival.  Kevin will perform the role of Froh (and cover that of Loge) in Das Rheingold, scheduled for August 2022 at the Latchis Theatre in Brattleboro, Vermont. Also, he will perform a number of roles, including trial judge Thayer, the Boston police commissioner and police chief and Harvard University President Lowell, in Marc Blitzstein and Leonard Lehrman’s Sacco and Vanzetti, 2022 dates and locations to be announced.
