“Flirtatious,” "an infinitely pleasing and lively soprano” and possessing a "fun irreverence and palpable sarcasm,” April Martin is a performer to watch.  She joins the Virginia Opera as an Emerging Artist for the 2017-2018 season.

 

Role debuts in the 2016-2017 season include Norina (Don Pasquale) with the Bar Harbor Music Festival in Maine, Dew Fairy (Hänsel und Gretel), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Kitty Hart (Dead Man Walking) and Edith (The Pirates of Penzance) as a Resident Artist with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City.

April has also sung with the Aspen Music Festival, Central City Opera, Finger Lakes Opera, Bar Harbor Music Festival, and the Castleton Music Festival.  Role debuts in the 2015-2016 season included Zerlina (Don Giovanni), the Governess (in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw) and Frasquita (Carmen). Other credits include Musetta (La bohème), Niece 1 (Peter Grimes), Anne Egerman (A Little Night  Music) and Blanche de la Force (Dialogues of the Carmelites).


Equally engaging in concert, Ms. Martin has joined the Cleveland Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony and the Mendelssohn Glee Club of NYC on programs and Gala events. April has garnered awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council, the Heafner/Williams Vocal Competition (2nd Place) and the Opera Carolina Guild Competition (2nd Place).
